The Santa Report?

For almost seven decades I have rejoiced in reading the sports pages for stories of heroes and their feats. Now the sports news is all about drugs, crime and various forms of cheating. I don’t know about you, but my heart is breaking. I doubt if anyone -- journalists, talk-show hosts, bloggers or letter-writers -- knows how to fix this once-marvelous broken toy. Maybe there really is a Santa Claus who will slide down our chimneys with a big bag full of solutions. Let us pray -- and Happy Holidays.
