Okur’s late heroics too much for Spurs

Mehmet Okur scored 14 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter, including eight in the final minute, to lead the Utah Jazz over the San Antonio Spurs, 97-93, Wednesday night at Salt Lake City.

Tim Duncan had 25 points and 12 rebounds and Tony Parker scored 27 for the Spurs, who rallied from 12 points down and took two brief leads down the stretch before Okur carried Utah to the win.

San Antonio, however, was outrebounded, 50-32.

The Jazz improved to 2-1 this season against the Spurs, who swept Utah five of the last six seasons.

Detroit 113, New Jersey 89 -- Richard Hamilton scored 24 points and the visiting Pistons set a team record by making 27 consecutive free throws.

The old record was 26 for the Pistons, who finished 33 of 38 from the free-throw line. Mikki Moore had 20 points for the Nets, who got only 11 from Vince Carter on four-of-15 shooting.

Philadelphia 89, New Orleans 78 -- The 76ers outscored the Hornets, 43-19, in a stretch spanning the second and third quarters at Oklahoma City to spoil Chris Paul’s return from a sprained ankle.

Andre Iguodala scored 22 points for the 76ers, who made 24 of 31 free throws to the Hornets’ five of eight. Devin Brown had 17 points for New Orleans. Paul had nine points and two assists in 29 minutes.

Dallas 95, Memphis 94 -- Dirk Nowitzki scored 16 of his 26 points in the fourth quarter and made all 10 of his free throws at Memphis, Tenn.

Mike Miller led the Grizzlies with 32 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter.

Houston 112, Seattle 102 -- Tracy McGrady scored 36 points to match Ray Allen at Houston, sending the SuperSonics to a franchise-record tying 14th consecutive road loss. Seattle hasn’t won a road game since Nov. 22.

Portland 100, Denver 91 -- Playing without Allen Iverson (ankle), the Nuggets lost their fourth in a row as the Trail Blazers’ Zach Randolph had 26 points and a season-high 17 rebounds at Portland, Ore. Carmelo Anthony had 33 points for Denver.

Sacramento 100, Minnesota 98 -- Kevin Martin had 28 points and the go-ahead jumper with 16.6 seconds left at Minneapolis to help the Kings win for only the fourth time in their last 15 games.

Charlotte 104, New York 87 -- Gerald Wallace scored 17 of his career-high 42 points in the fourth quarter and the Bobcats held the Knicks without a field goal for 11 minutes spanning the third and fourth quarters at Charlotte, N.C. Jamal Crawford scored 28 points for the Knicks.

Toronto 119, Washington 109 -- The Raptors had a franchise-record 43 points in the third quarter to prevail at Toronto.

Chris Bosh scored 34 points and Jose Calderon had 24 points and 11 assists for Toronto. Gilbert Arenas had 27 points for Washington.

Orlando 98, Milwaukee 73 -- The Magic ended a three-game losing streak after leading by 29 points in the first half at Orlando, Fla.

Hedo Turkoglu had 17 points for Orlando. Mo Williams scored 23 for Milwaukee.

Atlanta 115, Golden State 94 -- The host Hawks capped their first winning month (8-7) since April 2004 with their highest point total of the season.

Joe Johnson scored 33 points for Atlanta. Al Harrington led Golden State with 21 points.

Utah forward Carlos Boozer has a hairline fracture in his left leg, and is expected to be sidelined at least four weeks. He was hurt in a collision Saturday with New Orleans’ Tyson Chandler.... The Hornets let a deadline pass on their option to play a third season in Oklahoma City. The team relocated from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.
