The unexpected happened when the NHL’s worst road team visited one of the league’s best home teams.

Sean Burke made 40 saves for his 38th career shutout, and Alexander Frolov and Michael Cammalleri each scored twice Saturday night to help the Kings defeat the Florida Panthers, 7-0.

Konstantin Pushkarev, Dustin Brown and Jamie Lundmark also scored for the Kings, who had dropped seven of their previous eight road games. Frolov, Cammalleri, Sean Avery and Derek Armstrong each had two assists.

“We haven’t had a lot of problems scoring goals this year -- it’s been keeping them out that’s been the biggest problem,” Coach Marc Crawford said. “Sean’s come in and taken that burden away from us and it has given us a better feel for our team.”

Burke, who turned 40 on Jan. 29, was claimed off waivers from Tampa Bay on Jan. 18. It was his first shutout since April 8, 2006, vs. Pittsburgh.

“When the game’s kind of out of reach, and you get down to the last four or five minutes, you think about the shutout,” Burke said. “It’s such a good thing for the team. If you win 7-1, 7-2, it’s a great victory. But when you don’t give up anything, everybody feels a part of that.”

The Kings scored six goals on 18 shots through two periods.

Frolov gave an assist to Burke for helping the Kings’ offensive attack.

“He has made so many great saves the last two games, it’s much easier to play when you’re not afraid what’s going on” behind you, Frolov said.

Florida, which entered 6-1-1 in its previous eight home games, was shut out for the seventh time this season.

“I still can’t believe this happens -- it is hard to even think about the playoffs after we play like this,” Panthers captain Olli Jokinen said.

The Kings began a five-game trip by improving to 7-18 on the road.

“It’s a perfect way to start the road trip,” Cammalleri said. “We have a lot of guys from out East, and there are family and friends around, so it’s really fun to get this win.”

Goals by Cammalleri, Pushkarev and Brown gave the Kings a 3-0 lead.

“This was a game that you definitely could call ugly,” Panthers Coach Jacques Martin said. “It’s unacceptable, and that’s the bottom line.”
