Limo logistics for the Grammys

There could be a sour note for the 600 limousines ferrying the music industry’s best to the downtown Staples Center for Sunday’s Grammy Awards.

The large parking lots used in previous years as a limo bivouac across from Staples Center are gone because the massive L.A. Live development is going up in the area. Livery services were told last week that limousines must now leave the security cordon at Staples Center and park at the Sports Arena/Memorial Coliseum a mile away, Daily Variety reported Wednesday. When the awards show is over, limos must re-enter the security cordon to pick up clients.

VIPs could be better off driving their own cars and parking in lots outside the security area, which are closer than the Coliseum.

“I wouldn’t recommend a limo. Drive, park in a lot and walk to your car is the best scenario,” city Department of Transportation spokesman Aram Sahakian said.

Staples Center spokesman Michael Roth said there was room for 650 limos in parking lots within the security area. Some limo companies will have golf carts shuttling their clients to the lot. Street pickups outside the security zone are forbidden.
