Canucks hold off Thrashers

Markus Naslund and Brendan Morrison scored 10 seconds apart in the second period Saturday night to lift Vancouver to a 3-2 victory over Atlanta at Vancouver, Canada.

Before the game, the Thrashers traded defenseman Vitaly Vishnevski to Nashville for center Eric Belanger.

Buffalo 3, Calgary 2 -- Ales Kotalik scored the lone shootout goal, rallying the Sabres to victory at Buffalo, N.Y. The Sabres announced that forward Paul Gaustad will miss the rest of the season because of a sliced tendon in his left leg and that defenseman Jaroslav Spacek will miss several weeks because of a broken left hand.

Pittsburgh 6, Toronto 5 -- Jordan Staal scored his third goal at 3:54 of overtime to lead the Penguins past the Maple Leafs at Toronto.

Ottawa 5, Montreal 3 -- Daniel Alfredsson set up Wade Redden on a power play in the second period and assisted on Mike Fisher’s goal early in the third in the Senators’ win at Montreal.

Philadelphia 4, St. Louis 3 -- Simon Gagne scored his second goal 27 seconds into overtime and the Flyers ended a 13-game home losing streak.

Florida 5, Phoenix 2 -- Nathan Horton, Olli Jokinen, Martin Gelinas and Chris Gratton each had a goal and an assist in the Panthers’ win at Sunrise, Fla.

Minnesota 5, Carolina 4 -- Marian Gaborik scored twice on the power play to highlight a four-goal first period by the Wild at St. Paul, Minn.

Boston 4, New York Islanders 3 -- Zdeno Chara scored his first career shootout goal in his initial attempt, lifting the Bruins to victory at Boston.

New York Rangers 5, Washington 2 -- Jaromir Jagr became the 12th player in NHL history to score 1,500 points with three assists to help the Rangers win at Washington.
