Washington wins again

Spencer Hawes scored 18 points and Jon Brockman added 14 points and 10 rebounds as Washington defeated No. 25 Stanford, 64-52, Sunday night at Seattle.

Hawes started for the first time in seven games and outscored plodding Stanford, 8-4, during the first 10 minutes of the second half, when the Cardinal made only one of its first eight shots. He also finished with seven rebounds.

Washington, 16-8 overall and 6-7 in the Pac-10, kept its NCAA tournament hopes alive by winning for the fifth time in six games. Stanford is 15-8, 7-5.

Maryland 72, No. 16 Duke 60 -- James Gist had 16 points and 10 rebounds, and freshman Greivis Vasquez scored a season-high 18 at College Park, Md., as the Terrapins handed the Blue Devils their fourth straight loss, their longest skid in 11 seasons.

Maryland (18-7, 4-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) took control with a 29-4 run in the first half, then used a late surge to hold off a comeback bid by the Blue Devils (18-7, 5-6).
