Webber, who turns 34 in March, was owed $20.7 million this season and $22.3 million next season by the 76ers.

Angels’ Morales

suffers knee injury

The Angels, still stinging from the winter league injury that could sideline Juan Rivera for much of 2007, got another jolt of bad news when they learned first baseman Kendry Morales injured his left knee Tuesday while taking batting practice before a playoff game in the Dominican Republic.

Morales told the Associated Press in the Dominican that he had X-rays taken, which were negative, and is scheduled for an MRI test today.

Neither he nor his team, the Cibao Giants, had informed the Angels of the injury as of Wednesday night.

“I’m hearing about this for the first time,” General Manager Bill Stoneman said. “We’re going to have to look into this quickly.”

Dempsey completes

move to Fulham

The agreement could be worth as much as $4 million, which would make Dempsey the costliest American in England’s top league.

The World Boxing Council announced that it would approve the March 17 super-featherweight title fight between champion Marco Antonio Barrera and challenger Rafael Marquez in Las Vegas.

The move allows promoters Oscar De La Hoya and Bob Arum more time to resolve their dispute over the rights of WBC No. 1 challenger Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines.
