Legace, Guerin lift Blues over Sharks

Manny Legace saved 31 shots and Bill Guerin scored as the St. Louis Blues ended the San Jose Sharks’ four-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory Saturday night at San Jose.

Legace recorded the 16th shutout of his career, and the Blues enter the All-Star break with a three-game winning streak. The second-place Sharks remained four points behind the Ducks for the lead in the Pacific Division.

Guerin’s goal came with 1:24 left in the second. He skated around the net and flipped the puck past goalie Evgeni Nabokov.

Since St. Louis fired Mike Kitchen as coach on Dec. 11 and hired Andy Murray, the team has gone 12-4-4 and moved back into the playoff hunt.

Calgary 4, Edmonton 0 -- Miikka Kiprusoff made 32 saves, and the Flames beat the Oilers at Edmonton, Canada.

Nashville 6, Chicago 3 -- David Legwand scored three goals and assisted on another at Nashville to help the Predators send the Blackhawks into the All-Star break on a nine-game losing streak.

Tampa Bay 6, Carolina 5 -- Vaclav Prospal scored on the final play of a shootout to lead the Lightning past the Hurricanes at Raleigh, N.C.

Colorado 3, Detroit 1 -- Peter Budaj kept the Avalanche in it with 27 saves and Andrew Brunette scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period at Denver to help Colorado end a seven-game losing streak against the Red Wings.

Pittsburgh 8, Toronto 2 -- Mark Recchi scored three consecutive power-play goals and Sidney Crosby had a goal and two assists at Pittsburgh to lead the Penguins past the Maple Leafs.

Montreal 4, Buffalo 3 -- Michael Ryder scored the go-ahead goal with 2:53 remaining in regulation, and the Canadiens won at Montreal despite blowing a three-goal lead.

Ottawa 3, Boston 0 -- Dany Heatley scored his team-leading 29th and 30th goals at Boston, and the Senators won for the sixth time in seven games.

Dallas 2, Minnesota 1 -- Stu Barnes scored in the ninth round of a shootout to lift the Stars over the Wild at St. Paul, Minn.

New Jersey 4, Philadelphia 3 -- Brian Gionta scored the tying goal with 20.8 seconds remaining in regulation and had the only goal in the shootout to lead the Devils past the Flyers at East Rutherford, N.J.

Atlanta 3, New York Rangers 1 -- Niclas Havelid scored his second goal of the season 4 minutes 9 seconds into the third period to break a tie and help lift the Thrashers over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

Florida 4, Washington 1 -- Martin Gelinas scored twice, Ville Peltonen had a goal and an assist and the Panthers ended a two-game losing streak at Washington.
