Just saying yes, and no, to medical pot

Re “DEA raids marijuana outlets,” Jan. 18

As a California citizen, I found it disturbing to read Los Angeles Police Chief William J. Bratton’s promise to work with federal authorities in usurping the will of the California electorate. As a glaucoma patient relying on cannabis medically, it is my intent to see dispensaries propagate and thrive. It is the federal law that is wrong. Cannabis prohibition is irrational in a nation with Starbucks, much less thriving alcohol and tobacco industries.

L.A. city officials who agree with allowing marijuana shops should be voted out of office. A legal product called Marinol can be prescribed with federal government approval. Take a long, hard look at those getting prescriptions. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see how unethical this has become. Those who support marijuana shops want nothing less than to legalize drugs in this country.

Because the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and the federal government can’t seem to stop international drug smugglers who may engage in other illegal transactions such as weapons and human trafficking, they’ve targeted the pot clubs, shutting down wide-open, community-accepted businesses selling that narcotic to people with doctor’s referrals in a state where it’s been legalized by its residents. I feel much safer now.
