Man thrown from SUV on freeway junction dies
A passenger in a sport utility vehicle was killed in an early morning traffic accident, authorities said.
Cesar Ramon Sanchez, 21, died at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana following the 1:22 a.m. accident on the transition from the eastbound Riverside Freeway to the southbound Costa Mesa Freeway, a CHP dispatcher said.
The vehicle’s 24-year-old driver was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries.
He was driving a 2004 Ford Expedition at 70 to 75 mph when he apparently lost control and ran off the shoulder, authorities said. The vehicle rolled over several times, throwing Sanchez out.
The accident was under investigation, authorities said.
