Katrina evacuee loses pet battle
From Times Wire Reports
A Hurricane Katrina evacuee who claims rescue workers stole the dog she left behind has lost her fight for custody of the cocker spaniel.
In a one-sentence ruling, Judge Bill Henry awarded the 10-year-old dog to Tiffany Madura, who adopted her when she was brought to Austin by rescue workers after the 2005 hurricane.
Shalanda Augillard had claimed the cocker spaniel was her dog, Jazz, which she left at her mother’s house when Katrina hit.
Rescuers wouldn’t let the dog get in the boat with her.
