IT was a bit puzzling to read Stanley Meisler’s article on “Sargent and Venice” (July 8) and not have a single reference to the 2003 show at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, “Sargent in Italy.” Most, if not all, of the paintings he describes were exhibited in Los Angeles. I pulled out my copy of the exhibition catalog to look at some of the pictures he discusses. The article was interesting, and I am glad that the relevant paintings will be shown in Venice at long last, but Los Angeles was ahead of both New York and Venice.
