On the GoCar

If you don’t know your way around San Diego, you might consider hopping in a GoCar, a talking car that started service earlier this year. The little yellow cars with black racing stripes take you on a GPS-guided tour that talks about a bunch of tourist spots you may stop at, including Petco Park (home of the Padres), Gaslamp Quarter, Balboa Park and the Maritime Museum. The cars go on regular roads (only about 30 mph), and you can detour off the “tour” track. But don’t try sneaking over the Coronado Bridge -- they aren’t allowed on that roadway. Exercise the tykes

Sweatin’ with the newbies? Loews Hotels’ 18 sites nationwide recently rolled out a healthful-lifestyle perk aimed at 4- to 6-year-olds. Parents will be able to order up in-room Smart Cycles, which involve pedaling a stationary cycle to move Dora, Barbie, SpongeBob and other characters on adventures via a linked-up TV monitor. Bon voyage, QE2

Want to sail on one of the last voyages of the world’s most famous ocean liner? Get in line. The final sailing of the Queen Elizabeth 2, a 16-night trip from Southampton, England, to Dubai that starts Nov. 11, 2008, sold out just 35 minutes after bookings opened. That trip has been wait-listed, along with three earlier sailings of the QE2, including its last crossing from New York to Southampton, which starts Oct. 16, 2008. Ship owner Cunard Line reshuffled itineraries last month after selling the QE2 for $100 million to a firm in Dubai, which plans to anchor the ship off the Dubai coast and make it a tourist attraction.

Temple of totes

Hold everything -- a museum has opened in Amsterdam dedicated to handbags. The Museum of Bags and Purses contains more than 3,500 bags and accessories that illustrate the history of women’s purses in Western culture. The museum is at 573 Herengracht, behind Rembrandtplein.
