* Chicago 4, at Boston 2: A.J. Pierzynski was three for four with three runs batted in, making Daisuke Matsuzaka pay for a career-high six walks. Matsuzaka (11-7) gave up three runs and two hits, striking out six, but he bunched his walks together -- two in the first and three in the sixth -- and both times Pierzynski was there to drive the runners in. The Red Sox have lost three straight and eight of their last 11 since sitting a season-high 12 games up in the AL East.

* Toronto 3, at New York 2: Vernon Wells’ tapper rolled to a stop for an infield hit, and the Blue Jays rallied for three runs in the seventh inning to end the Yankees’ five-game winning streak. Dustin McGowan (6-5) gave up four hits in seven innings and Casey Janssen pitched a perfect eighth for Toronto. Jeremy Accardo got his 14th save in 17 chances.

* Cleveland 7, at Texas 5: C.C. Sabathia became the first 13-game winner in the major leagues despite another shaky start, getting help from Grady Sizemore’s long tiebreaking home run in the fifth inning. Sabathia (13-4) gave up four runs and nine hits over six innings with two strikeouts and a walk.
