From Times Staff Reports

The City Council’s planning committee approved an ordinance Tuesday that would limit the size of single-family homes throughout much of the city.

The ordinance, which is considered an anti-mansionization law, would prohibit new homes from covering more than 25% to 50% of a lot.

It is intended to bar people from tearing down homes and replacing them with larger structures that dwarf existing homes.

The ordinance is expected to be discussed again in September and must still be approved by the full council.
