* at Cleveland 1, Boston 0: Fausto Carmona (13-4) allowed four singles and raised his scoreless innings streak to 18 to improve to 5-0 in July. Franklin Gutierrez hit a home run in the third inning. Carmona had not faced the Red Sox since blowing consecutive save chances at Boston last season, all but finishing the Indians’ experiment with him as the closer.

* at Texas 7, Seattle 6: Ramon Vazquez hit a two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning off previously unblemished closer J.J. Putz to help the Rangers complete a four-game sweep. Putz hadn’t allowed a run in 16 road appearances this season and had converted a majors-best 31 consecutive save chances since last season, including all 29 this year.

* Detroit 13, at Chicago 9: Ryan Raburn, making an emergency start after Gary Sheffield (shoulder) was scratched from the lineup, hit two home runs and drove in seven runs. Raburn, called up from triple-A Toledo, is 10 for 20 in nine games, with three home runs and 10 runs batted in.

* at Toronto 13, Minnesota 1: Gregg Zaun homered and drove in four runs, and the Blue Jays tied a club record with an 11-run sixth inning in completing a three-game sweep. Zaun came within a triple of the cycle. Toronto has won a season-high five straight and Minnesota has lost four in a row.

* at Baltimore 6, Tampa Bay 1: Erik Bedard (10-4) allowed one run in six innings to earn his sixth straight victory and extend the Devil Rays’ losing streak to five games. Corey Patterson had a double and a home run for the Orioles.

* New York 7, at Kansas City 1: The Royals stranded nine runners -- five in scoring position.

* at Angels 7, Oakland 6: The Athletics’ Joe Kennedy fell to 1-10 against the Angels.
