Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense put on a first-rate performance, pulling away in the stretch and winning the $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes on Sunday at Saratoga Race Course at Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

In his first race since finishing second in the Preakness Stakes more than two months ago, Street Sense had more than enough in reserve to overtake C P West in the stretch for a 1 1/2 -length victory.

With jockey Calvin Borel placing Street Sense in his usual rail-hugging position, the 3-year-old colt swung wide around the far turn.

The son of Street Cry then pulled even with C P West and moved off in the final strides to the cheers of the crowd.

Street Sense became the first Derby winner to come back in his 3-year-old season and run at Saratoga since Thunder Gulch in 1995. Street Sense covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:46.88.

In Summation held off Greg’s Gold by a nose to win the $300,000 Bing Crosby Handicap at Del Mar.

Ridden by Corey Nakatani, In Summation covered six furlongs in 1:11:06 -- fastest at the distance this summer over the track’s new artificial surface.

Trained by Christophe Clement, In Summation was shipped in from New York for the race.

Leading rider Michael Baze finished fourth aboard Battle Won. The 20-year-old jockey escaped injury in the first race when his mount Lyrical Sound bobbled and broke down in a grass race. The filly had to be destroyed.

Baze had X-rays on his left leg, which were negative, and he returned to ride in the day’s final three races.

Taking advantage of the absence of My Buddie, Magic Show Czech won the $400,000 Governor’s Cup Futurity in stakes record time late Saturday night at Los Alamitos.

With My Buddie, the fastest qualifier for the Grade I, scratched because of sore shins, Magic Show Czech, the 3-1 second choice, covered the 350 yards in 17.22, eclipsing the previous record of 17.32 shared by Tac It Like A Man and Checknbac.

J.R. Ramirez rode the 2-year-old Corona Czech gelding for owner Enrique Gonzalez’s EG High Desert Farms and trainer Dan Luna. The victory was the second in five starts for Magic Show Czech.

The Governor’s Cup Futurity was one of three Grade I’s on the California Champions Night program.

In the two others, heavily favored Fdd Dynasty won the $170,000 Governor’s Cup Derby and 22-1 shot Soul of Silence upset a quality field in the $164,100 Spencer L. Childers.

A gelded son of Separtist owned by Douglas Rau, Marci South and trainer Patricia Visscher, Soul of Silence had never competed in a Grade I before the Childers, but prevailed by three-quarters of a length under jockey Saul Ramirez Jr. He ran the 400 yards in 19.59 seconds.
