* New York 10, at Chicago 3: Joe Torre got his 2,000th managerial victory and Alex Rodriguez hit his 15th career grand slam. The Yankees have won three in a row for the first time since May 1-3. Bobby Abreu hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the eighth inning and Rodriguez added his slam in a six-run ninth. Torre is the 10th manager to reach 2,000.

* at Cleveland 8, Kansas City 3: Fausto Carmona (7-1) won his seventh consecutive decision to help the Indians improve to 21-7 at Jacobs Field. Franklin Gutierrez, Jason Michaels and Casey Blake homered for the Indians.

* Tampa Bay 5, at Toronto 3: Delmon Young hit a tiebreaking, two-run single in the ninth inning, and the Devil Rays won despite striking out 13 times against the Blue Jays’ A.J. Burnett. Burnett gave up three runs, seven hits and three walks -- all in the third inning.

* Detroit 11, at Texas 4: Gary Sheffield homered in a six-run third inning and Curtis Granderson had two triples and three RBIs to help hand the Rangers their 12th loss in 15 games. Brandon Inge drove in three runs.

* Boston 1, Oakland 0: The Athletics were looking for their first four-game sweep at home against the Red Sox since 1932, when they played in Philadelphia.
