* at N.Y. Mets 9, Oakland 1: Tom Glavine picked up his 296th victory, ending a five-start winless streak and leading the Mets to only their fifth win in 19 games this month. He pitched into the ninth inning and helped himself with two hits and two RBIs.

* Chicago Cubs 5, at Chicago White Sox 1: Carlos Zambrano matched a career-high with 12 strikeouts, helping the Cubs hand the White Sox their 20th loss in 25 games. Zambrano, who struck out seven of the first nine batters, yielded three hits and one walk in eight innings.

* at Florida 5, Minnesota 4: Hanley Ramirez hit a tiebreaking homer with two out in the eighth inning. The homer came after the Twins scored twice in the top of the inning. Twins first baseman Justin Morneau was taken to a hospital after he collided with Marlins catcher Miguel Olivo at home plate. He was coughing up blood repeatedly, was out of breath and had chest pains. The team said he had a small bruise on his lung.

* at Washington 4, Cleveland 1: A few days after earning a promotion from triple-A Columbus based on a 43-game hitting streak -- an International League record -- Brandon Watson singled, doubled and drove in two runs.

* at Toronto 9, Colorado 8 (10 innings): John McDonald hit a two-run single and Curtis Thigpen scored the winning run from first base on catcher Chris Iannetta’s throwing error.

* at Milwaukee 11, Kansas City 6: Former Royal Jeff Suppan gave up nine hits and five earned runs in five innings but won for the third time in nine starts.

* at Texas 11, Houston 3: Sammy Sosa hit career homer No. 601 and had a two-run single during an eight-run fifth inning. Sosa’s two-run homer started it and the single capped it.

* Baltimore 7, at Arizona 1: Brian Roberts tripled and homered and drove in three runs and Daniel Cabrera held the Diamondbacks hitless for five innings until Eric Byrnes led off the sixth with a double to left.

* Boston 2, at San Diego 1: Daisuke Matsuzaka escaped a first-inning jam to outpitch Greg Maddux. The Red Sox have baseball’s best record (47-25). The Padres have lost three in a row and fell out of first place in the NL West.

* Cincinnati 16, at Seattle 1: While Ken Griffey Jr. was being cheered in his return to Seattle, David Ross and Brandon Phillips each hit two home runs to lead the Reds.

* N.Y. Yankees 7, at San Francisco 3: The Yankees beat the Giants in their first meaningful game in San Francisco since winning Game 7 of the 1962 World Series.

* Philadelphia 6, at St. Louis 0: In the only National League game, pitcher Jamie Moyer’s one-out single in the third inning was the first of six consecutive hits during a five-run rally.

* Detroit 5, at Atlanta 0: The Tigers scored all five runs with two out in the sixth inning off John Smoltz.

* Dodgers 6, at Tampa Bay 3: Luis Gonzalez joined Olmedo Saenz, Mike Kinkade and Chad Kreuter as the only Dodgers to homer as a designated hitter.

* at Angels 5, Pittsburgh 4 (11 innings): Orlando Cabrera singled home Chone Figgins with the winning run.
