A Pacifica man who was visiting the Palm Desert area apparently fell to his death during a hike Sunday morning. The family of Baron Ray Reed, 59, called the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department after he did not return from a hike in Carrizo Canyon, west of Vista Point on California 74, authorities said.
A California Highway Patrol helicopter crew spotted the body in a ravine about an hour and 15 minutes after the initial call.
Reed appeared to have fallen off a cliff, coroner’s officials said.
Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department, said the preliminary investigation found no indication of foul play.
