Earlier vote favors big money

Re “Earlier primary gives California a major voice,” March 16

I disagree with the governor signing the bill moving the state’s primary election to Feb. 5. I think it does not serve the interest of the country as a whole for the largest state to hold an early primary election, because it will favor candidates with big-money support. It will be impossible for any unknown, underfunded candidate to raise the money to win in California unless the person has already been designated by an unelected group of lobby interests. I think it is better if large states such as California, New York, Texas, Illinois and Florida wait for the smaller states to have their say. The system is already too heavily weighted in favor of candidates with big-money interests. This bill will make the electoral process yet more undemocratic.
