Andy Roddick and James Blake were selected Wednesday for the U.S. Davis Cup team that will face Rafael Nadal and Spain on an indoor hardcourt in the April 6-8 quarterfinal at Winston-Salem, N.C.
Captain Patrick McEnroe also chose the world’s top-ranked doubles team of brothers Bob and Mike Bryan in the best-of-five event.
Fourth-ranked Amelie Mauresmo of France had an appendectomy in Paris and is expected to be out for a month.... The ATP Board voted to immediately end its round-robin experiment.

Reid will return to Eagles Friday
Philadelphia Eagles Coach Andy Reid will return Friday after leaving the team Feb. 12 because of his two oldest sons’ legal troubles stemming from separate traffic incidents Jan. 30.
Meanwhile, former Indianapolis Colts defensive tackle Montae Reagor, 29, signed a three-year deal with the Eagles.
The Houston Texans reportedly are close to acquiring backup quarterback Matt Schaub, 25, from the Atlanta Falcons for second-round picks this year and 2008.

Rhodes reaches deal
in drunk driving case
Oakland Raiders running back Dominic Rhodes, 28, pleaded guilty to reckless driving in Indianapolis after prosecutors dropped drunk driving charges against him.
He was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 180 in jail, but 178 were suspended and he received credit for two days in the Feb. 20 incident.
Michigan football players Carson Butler and Christian Richards III were arraigned in Ann Arbor on misdemeanor assault charges after police say they attacked a fellow student in a residence hall on St. Patrick’s Day. Richards is from Pacoima.

Chivas USA executive
resigns from the team
Whit Haskel, 39, senior vice president and general manager of Chivas USA for the past 2 1/2 years, announced that he will leave the Major League Soccer team to pursue other business interests. Javier Leon, chief executive, will assume Haskel’s GM duties in the interim.

A U.S. District judge in Nevada denied a court motion by Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions to stop Manny Pacquiao’s super-featherweight fight against Jorge Solis for rival promoter Top Rank Inc. April 14 in San Antonio.
Golden Boy and promoter Bob Arum’s Top Rank are in a legal dispute over the promotional rights to Pacquiao. Both companies signed the boxer to multi-fight promotional deals last year, but Pacquiao aligned with Top Rank for a richer signing bonus.

Former Irish Cricket Union president Robert Kerr, 68, died of an apparent heart attack in Kingston, Jamaica, two days after the death of Pakistan Coach Bob Woolmer at the World Cup.
NHRA driver Eric Medlen remained in critical condition in Gainesville, Fla. after Monday’s test-session crash.... The U.S. defeated Switzerland, 9-5, and advanced to the playoffs at the women’s world curling championship in Aomori, Japan.... Ravel, one of the top 3-year-olds in the country and the son of 2000 Kentucky Derby winner Fusaichi Pegasus, is out of the running for the Derby because of an injured left front leg.

Chargers lineman, 67
Ernie Wright, an offensive lineman for the San Diego Chargers and Cincinnati Bengals, died of cancer in San Diego. He was 67.... Tom Jones, the longtime Florida women’s track and field coach, died of cancer, the school said. He was 62.
