* at San Francisco 5, Colorado 3: Barry Bonds hit home run No. 743, a two-run shot in the fourth inning and his ninth this season, and lined a go-ahead two-run single to right field in the eighth. He moved to within 12 home runs of Hank Aaron’s record of 755 and he tied Stan Musial for fourth place on the all-time list with 1,951 runs batted in.

* Chicago 8-7, at Pittsburgh 6-1: Jason Marquis (4-1) held the Pirates to four hits in eight innings and Alfonso Soriano homered for the second time in two days for the Cubs. The teams completed a game suspended Tuesday because of rain. Soriano led off that game with a homer.

* at San Diego 7, Washington 3: The Padres gave a rude welcome home to local product Matt Chico (2-3), who couldn’t get out of the fourth inning after giving up five runs. San Diego’s Adrian Gonzalez homered against Ray King leading off the eighth inning, his eighth.

* at Atlanta 4, Philadelphia 3: Chipper Jones kept up his torrid hitting with a two-run double and Braves relievers shut down the Phillies over the last four innings. Jones is hitting .353 (18 for 51) with six homers during a 12-game hitting streak. Ryan Howard hit a three-run homer for the Phillies.

* at New York 6, Florida 3: Oliver Perez (3-2) struck out a season-high 10 and singled twice to start rallies and help the Mets avoid a three-game sweep. He walked three in his 17th career double-digit strikeout game. Every New York batter had been on base by the end of the fourth inning.

* at Milwaukee 4, St. Louis 0: Carlos Villanueva (2-0) pitched four scoreless innings of relief for injured starter Chris Capuano, helping the Brewers complete a sweep of the Cardinals, who have lost five in a row. Prince Fielder hit a two-run single against Anthony Reyes (0-5).

* at Houston 3, Cincinnati 1: Roy Oswalt (4-2) gave up four hits in eight innings and didn’t surrender a hit until Adam Dunn’s home run that bounced off the wall in left-center field in the fifth inning to cut the Reds’ deficit to 2-1.

* at Dodgers 2, Arizona 1: Mark Hendrickson (2-0) gave up three hits and no runs over six-plus innings.
