* Oakland 5, at Tampa Bay 2: Nick Swisher hit a tiebreaking three-run homer with two out in the top of the ninth. Shannon Stewart walked and Mark Ellis singled against Gary Glover (0-2) with one out. Brian Stokes replaced Glover and struck out Eric Chavez before Swisher made it 5-2 by hitting a 2-2 pitch into the right-field stands.

* at Baltimore 3, Cleveland 2 (10 innings): Nick Markakis singled in the winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. The Orioles, who ended a four-game losing streak, improved to 2-14 when trailing after seven innings.

* at Texas 7, Toronto 1: Hank Blalock hit a two-run homer, Brandon McCarthy (2-4) pitched six sharp innings and the Rangers ended a five-game losing streak. It was McCarthy’s first win since April 9 against Tampa Bay.

* Boston 2, at Minnesota 0: Tim Wakefield (3-3) held the league’s top-hitting team to three hits and didn’t allow a runner past second base to outpitch Carlos Silva (2-2). Silva yielded only one run over seven innings.

* Detroit 6, at Kansas City 3: Consistently in the 90s and sometimes reaching 100 mph with his fastball, Justin Verlander (2-1) gave up seven hits and two runs in seven-plus innings. Todd Jones worked the ninth for his league-leading 11th save in 13 chances.

* Seattle 15, at New York 11: Every starter in the Mariners’ batting order had a hit and scored a run, seven of nine had RBIs, and the team had a season-high 20 hits.

* at Angels 5, Chicago 1: It was Mike Scioscia’s 626th victory, making him the winningest manager in club history.
