* at New York 5, Chicago 4: Michael Wuertz walked three straight batters in the bottom of the ninth, forcing home the winning run. Tom Glavine failed to earn his 295th win but recovered from a rocky start and kept the Mets in the game.
* at Philadelphia 8, Milwaukee 6: Pinch-hitter Wes Helms hit a tiebreaking single during the Phillies’ six-run eighth inning.
* at Pittsburgh 7, Florida 0: Pirates left-hander Tom Gorzelanny limited the slumping Marlins to five singles over seven shutout innings, outpitching Dontrelle Willis.
* at San Diego 7, Cincinnati 1: Greg Maddux pitched a five-hitter for his first complete game in two years. Maddux struck out five and walked none in his 109th complete game. He needed only 95 pitches to complete the gem.
* at Washington 2, Atlanta 1: Jason Bergmann got his first major league win as a starter.
* St. Louis 8, at Dodgers 4: Chris Duncan hit St. Louis’ first homer since May 1, and the Cardinals defeated the Dodgers for the 10th straight time, dating to 2005.
