Musician Ike Turner is jailed for hours on invalid warrant
Musician Ike Turner was jailed and then released Wednesday after Los Angeles police arrested him on what turned out to be an invalid warrant.
LAPD officers Tuesday night spotted Turner’s 2002 Mercedes-Benz S-50 driving more than 80 mph and straddling lanes on the northbound 405 Freeway at Roscoe Boulevard, in the San Fernando Valley, authorities said.
Turner, 75, got off the freeway and was pulled over about 11:45 p.m. near Orion Avenue and San Fernando Mission Boulevard, said April Harding, a Los Angeles Police Department spokeswoman.
After running a warrants check, officers discovered that the entertainer had a 1989 felony narcotics warrant.
Officers left the Mercedes with an assistant. Turner was taken into custody and booked at the downtown Twin Towers jail. He was freed about 3 p.m. Wednesday after it was determined the warrant was invalid.
Beginning in the 1950s, Turner gained fame as a rhythm and blues guitarist and songwriter. Together with his wife, Tina, his group became one of the most recognizable in music.
