* at New York 6, Chicago 5: Carlos Delgado’s two-run single capped a five-run rally in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Mets, who pulled off their biggest ninth-inning comeback since 1999 against Philadelphia. New York won for the seventh time in nine games. Ryan Dempster (1-2) and Scott Eyre could not hold the lead for the Cubs, who lost for the sixth time in eight games.

* Milwaukee 3, at Philadelphia 2: Ben Sheets struck out eight in 7 2/3 innings, and Gabe Gross hit a pair of solo homers for the first multihomer game of his big league career, helping the Brewers end a four-game losing streak.

* at Washington 4, Atlanta 3: Felipe Lopez returned from a rare day off by stopping an 0-for-13 skid with a single, double and go-ahead triple in the Nationals’ rally. The Nationals have won two series in a row after failing to win any of their first 12.

* Arizona 3, at Colorado 1: Livan Hernandez gave up four hits over seven innings, singled twice and scored a run for the Diamondbacks, who won twice in the three-game series and won their sixth series of the year.

* at Pittsburgh 7, Florida 2: The Pirates took advantage of a team-record-tying five Marlins errors for the victory. Ronny Paulino had three RBIs and Shawn Chacon (1-0) pitched five shutout innings out of the bullpen for the Pirates, who earned a split of the four-game series. The Marlins ended a two-game winning streak.

* San Francisco 2, at Houston 1 (12 innings): The Giants won for only the third time in nine games, and the Astros’ four-game winning streak ended.
