Panty Raid finds another gear in stretch
Panty Raid charged to victory in the Black-Eyed Susan, providing jockey Edgar Prado with an anxious moment before outdistancing Baroness Thatcher and Winning Point to win by a length Friday.
It was the second consecutive win for Panty Raid, who went off as the second favorite in the Grade II race for 3-year-old fillies. Winning Point edged Baroness Thatcher by a neck for third.
Panty Raid, who was in fourth at the far turn, ran 1:50.07 over 1 1/8 miles.
“At the half-mile pole when I asked her for little bit, it wasn’t there.... That kind of worried me a little bit,” Prado said. “I thought I was in serious trouble, but when she hit the stretch she seemed to catch another gear and just came home running. I was happy for that.”
Panty Raid is trained by Todd Pletcher, who will saddle Circular Quay and King Of The Roxy in today’s Preakness.
