You’re in L.A. now, sir

I was a bit dismayed by Michael Govan’s provincialism [“Michael Govan’s Bright Ideas,” May 13]. Why is it that transplanted New Yorkers refer to Los Angeles as “the second city in culture”? Second according to whom? And then his remark about L.A.’s lack of desire about bringing the “best pieces” to Los Angeles. Well, Los Angeles has many fine art institutions with many fine “pieces”! Besides LACMA, there’s the Huntington Library, the Getty, the Museum of Contemporary Art and my favorite, the Norton Simon. As the new director of LACMA, Govan should stop worshiping at the altar of New York and get on to the business of being Angeleno!
