Re “Cliche and cataclysm,” Opinion, Oct. 27

It seems to me that we don’t, as Meghan Daum insists, need cliches to live in Southern California. And it’s not that we view our closeness to natural disasters as a “direct reflection of [our] toughness.” No, we’re a city of actors, writers and directors -- of dreamers. Some of the most ambitious people on the planet come here to make their dream career flourish. So, Ms. Daum, I think our resolve is less made up of cliche ingredients; instead, it’s chock full of people with a proclivity for unbelievably zealous pursuits.
