No. 11 Virginia Tech, a week after squandering a 10-point lead to Boston College in the final minutes, rebounded behind two long touchdown passes from Sean Glennon in a 27-3 victory over Georgia Tech on Thursday night in Atlanta.

Glennon made his second straight start in place of freshman Tyrod Taylor, who was sidelined again by a sprained ankle. Glennon, who lost the job to Taylor after the second game, made the most of it by throwing for 296 yards, including a 40-yard touchdown pass to Justin Harper and a 71-yarder to Josh Morgan.

The Hokies, 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, moved into a first-place tie with rival Virginia in the Coastal Division. The teams meet in the final game of the regular season.

Georgia Tech (5-4, 2-4) saw its hopes of making a second straight trip to the ACC championship game come to an end. The Yellow Jackets were simply horrible after jumping ahead, 3-0, on their second possession.

Four Virginia Tech players had to wear loaner attire from the home team after their own white jerseys disappeared from Bobby Dodd Stadium before the game.

Washington State running back Dwight Tardy will miss the rest of the season after injuring his left knee against UCLA.

Tardy, a junior who rushed for a career-best 214 yards and two touchdowns in 37 carries in the Cougars’ 27-7 victory over the Bruins, will have surgery, Coach Bill Doba said.

Senior backup Kevin McCall, who gained 51 yards in 11 carries against UCLA, will start Saturday at California.

Doba said it appeared the anterior cruciate ligament in Tardy’s left knee was injured during a 51-yard scoring run in the final minute of the game.

Mississippi Chancellor Robert Khayat voiced his support for Coach Ed Orgeron, whose team is 2-7.

“I’m very high on Ed Orgeron,” Khayat said. “[I’m] very loyal and supportive to him and committed to him.”

The Rebels are in danger of going winless in the Southeastern Conference for the first time since 1982 with league games left against No. 3 Louisiana State and at Mississippi State.
