Is he just an ordinary Joe?

Now Phil Jackson will have someone else in Los Angeles who could win titles only when he had great talent.

Without the $200-million payroll, Joe Torre is just another Bill Russell/Glenn Hoffman/Davey Johnson/Jim Tracy/Grady Little.

I think the acquisition of Joe Torre and Don Mattingly is a great thing for the Dodgers.
I would bat Mattingly third and Torre cleanup.

If Joe Torre couldn’t get to the World Series with Jeter, Rodriguez, Posada, Mussina, Clemens, Pettitte, Rivera, et al., what makes anyone think he’ll get there with the Dodgers? Also, if anyone thinks the Red Sox are World Series champs because Terry Francona’s the manager, they haven’t taken a close look at Boston’s lineup.

Congratulations to the Dodgers for finally spending their money on a proven winner in Joe Torre. Unfortunately, Mr. Torre cannot pitch, field, or hit, and neither can his team.

Am I the only person in the region that feels sorry for Grady Little? He was in a no-win situation with aging veterans and inexperienced kids, which turned out to be a combustible mix in the end. This was not the manager’s fault, this is the front office and ownership’s fault for putting together such an awful group of players, again.
This guy from Boston has turned this once-proud organization into an utter joke. Wake up, Dodgers fans. As long as the McCourts own the Dodgers, there will never be a next year.

The Angels, who have the only Latino owner in Major League Baseball, hire a black general manager. The Dodgers seek and receive permission from the commissioner exempting them from interviewing minority candidates for their new manager.

Can you imagine how different Red Sox nation would be if Frank McCourt had been successful in purchasing the team?
* Still no World Series championship after 90 years.
* Failed attempt (lack of money) and PR fiasco trying to build a new stadium on his waterfront parking lot.
* Forced to stay at Fenway and scraping for every penny, there would be obnoxious advertising across every flat surface, including the new “video monster” in left field.
* Succession of one mistake after another, passionate fans becoming infuriated and unlike Los Angeles, attendance reflects degraded product on field.
Lucky us.
