Dog in space: A Science in Brief item in Saturday’s main news section about the 50th anniversary of the first animal in orbit said that Laika the dog was euthanized after a week in space. Omitted from the article was the statement that former Soviet officials later said the dog died after only a few hours in space due to overheating.
