* at San Jose 4, Phoenix 1: Jeremy Roenick’s 500th career goal, at 13:25 of the second period, was also the go-ahead goal and the Sharks beat the Coyotes for the fifth consecutive time. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 22 of 23 shots.

* at Ottawa 3, Montreal 1: Daniel Alfredsson and Chris Neil scored 1:40 apart in the third period to rally the Senators. Cristobal Huet, who stopped Alfredsson on a penalty shot in the second, was within 5:10 of his second shutout in two starts, but the Senators captain tied the score, 1-1.

* New York Rangers 3, at Toronto 2 (SO): Marcel Hossa scored the decisive goal in the shootout and Steve Valiquette made 32 saves for the Rangers in the Hall of Fame game. Valiquette spelled regular goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who had played every minute of New York’s previous 16 games.

* at New York Islanders 2, New Jersey 1: Miroslav Satan scored his third consecutive winning goal and the Islanders denied Devils goalie Martin Brodeur his 500th victory. The Islanders won their fourth game in a row.

* Carolina 5, at Atlanta 3: Rod Brind’Amour scored two goals and the Southeast Division-leading Hurricanes handed rookie goalie Ondrej Pavelec his first loss. Cam Ward stopped 32 shots for Carolina.

* at Boston 2, Buffalo 1: Tim Thomas made 45 saves and Chuck Kobasew scored the tiebreaker in the third period to help the Bruins end a four-game skid. The Bruins have been held to two goals or fewer in eight of their last 10 games.

* at Philadelphia 5, Pittsburgh 2: Kimmo Timonen had a goal and three assists, and the Flyers built a 3-0 lead in the first 26 minutes.

* Tampa Bay 5, at Washington 2: Vaclav Prospal had a goal and two assists, and the Lightning won on the road for the second consecutive game after losing its first seven road contests.

* at Nashville 4, Columbus 3 (SO): Chris Mason stopped all three shootout tries and Martin Erat scored the only goal in the tiebreaker.

* Edmonton 4, at Calgary 2: Shawn Horcoff scored twice, including the winning goal, and Mathieu Garon made 37 saves to give the Oilers their first win in five games.

* at Kings 6, Dallas 5 (OT): Anze Kopitar scored during the Kings’ five-goal rally in the third period, then connected 2:34 into overtime.
