Brooks will be a no-show to back strikers

Country superstar Garth Brooks canceled scheduled promotional appearances for Monday on “The View” and Tuesday on “Ellen” in support of the writers strike.

Brooks also missed a strategically timed appearance last week on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno” that would have aired the night before the release of his new album, “The Ultimate Hits.” That coincided with the start of the strike.

“This is the first time in many years that he has not done television in support of his music,” said his spokeswoman in a statement issued Thursday. It went on to say Brooks has taken the stand backing the writers because “he hopes to be a writer in the not-too-distant future.”

Asked for an explanation, given that Brooks officially retired from entertainment seven years ago to devote his time to raising his three daughters, spokeswoman Nancy Seltzer said “I can’t elaborate for now.”
