* Orlando 95, at New Jersey 70: Dwight Howard had 19 rebounds and became the NBA’s youngest player to grab 3,000 rebounds. Howard (21 years, 343 days) got it with 6:25 to play, breaking the old mark set by Shaquille O’Neal, when he was 23-plus years old and also playing for the Magic. Orlando’s 8-2 start is its best since the lockout-shortened 1998-99 season.

* at Cleveland 99, Utah 94: LeBron James scored 40 points -- 34 in the second half -- and made a key block on former teammate Carlos Boozer in the final seconds. The Cavaliers announced that guard Larry Hughes will be sidelined at least four weeks because of a bruised left leg, He suffered the injury during a Nov. 4 game at Phoenix.

* Seattle 126, at Atlanta 123 (2 OT): Rookie Kevin Durant made a buzzer-beating three-point basket at the end of the second overtime, and Damien Wilkins scored a career-high 41 points in the SuperSonics’ victory. With Al Horford guarding him at the top of the key, Durant pumped once to get the defender in the air before shooting over his outstretched arm. Durant, the No. 2 overall pick in the draft, finished with 21 points.

* at Toronto 110, Indiana 101: A jump shot by Jamaal Tinsley and free throws by Tinsley and Jeff Foster cut the Raptors’ lead to 101-98 with 1:07 left, but Jose Calderon made a three-point basket with 48 seconds left that pushed the lead back to six.

* at Philadelphia 92, Portland 88: The 76ers, who missed 15 consecutive shots spanning the first two quarters, scored only 27 points in the first half. They rallied from a 25-point deficit and Andre Iguodala made two free throws with a minute left to give them an 89-88 lead.

* at San Antonio 90, Houston 84: The Rockets, without an injured Tracy McGrady, managed to tie the score at 80-80 with 3:48 to play on Luis Scola’s jump shot. But even with Yao Ming’s eight points in the quarter, the Spurs pulled away. Manu Ginobili’s layup made it 88-84 with 57 seconds left. * New Orleans 120, at Memphis 118 (OT): David West scored a career-high 40 points, including the go-ahead 15-footer with 8.3 seconds left in overtime. The win gave the Hornets an 8-2 record, the best start in franchise history.

* Washington 105, at Minnesota 89: Gilbert Arenas scored six consecutive points to key a 20-3 fourth-quarter run that helped the Wizards take control. Caron Butler, who scored a season-high 29 points, had a key steal of an inbounds pass as the Timberwolves committed several turnovers during that stretch.

* at Sacramento 123, New York 118 (2 OT): Kevin Martin scored a career-high 43 points to lead the Kings. After failing to put away the Knicks in regulation, the Kings finally did in the second overtime. They opened the five-minute period with a 9-2 run, with Martin’s three-pointer giving them a 116-109 lead with 1:34 left. Martin made four consecutive free throws and John Salmons made two in the final 12 seconds.

* at Boston 92, Miami 91: Paul Pierce made a go-ahead layup with 25 seconds left after the Celtics blew a 15-point lead.

* at Golden State 122, Clippers 105: The Clippers attempted 29 three-point shots, more than in any game this season or last, and only three off the 1997 franchise record of 32. It was their fourth consecutive loss at Oracle Arena.

* at Lakers 103, Detroit 91: The Lakers trailed, 74-72, with eight minutes left, but took control from there. Kobe Bryant scored 11 points during the final 5:38.
