The BLS (Bowl Loser Series) results are in and Duke (1-11) has captured the Bottom Ten title. But it wasn’t easy. The Blue Doofuses had to find a way to lose to North Carolina, which came into the game with a 3-8 record.

Finishing second in the rankings was Florida International, which was accused by some voters of constantly pouring it on itself to curry favor with Bottom Ten selectors. The Golden Panters gave up 40 or more points five times this year.

Making a late run, Alabumble dropped its fourth straight game under coaching genius Nick Saban to climb to No. 6. But the streak was too late to offset three early season wins by margins of six points or fewer. Saban told reporters Saturday, “I would love for our players to have the opportunity to go to a bowl game.” He was evidently unaware that funding had fallen through this year for a Woes Bowl Game between Bottom Ten rivals.

Worst spectator sign cliche: The letter D alongside a drawing of a fence, held up for TV cameras. Baton-swinging security guards should remove all such displays.

Unclear on the concept: North Carolina Coach Butch Davis, 4-8 in his first season, was granted a contract extension through the 2014 season and given a raise of $291,000 to $2.1 million. Imagine how much money the guy will make if he ever has a winning team!
