The Los Angeles-based firm Artecnica’s Design With Conscience project unites internationally renowned design names such as Tord Boontje with artisans in developing countries. The latest addition to the line is taTu, a suite of indoor-outdoor pieces designed by Stephen Burks and hand-woven by artists from Zimbabwe and South Africa using galvanized steel wire. The collection, whose name means “three” in one of the dialects spoken in Zimbabwe, consists of a stackable stool ($172); a coffee table that can be broken down into a tray, bowl and basket ($550); and a side table that becomes a medium tray, bowl and trash can ($440). The collection is part of a special installation of Design With Conscience products at Fitzsu Society, 7970 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, (323) 655-1908; and 65 W. Green St., Pasadena, (626) 564-1908.
