A faith that moves the Rockies

Re “A baseball team built on faith,” Opinion, Oct. 24

It’s disturbing that the Colorado Rockies baseball franchise is criticized for running the club based on Christian principles and for recruiting players judged to have “moral values” and “character.” In their attempt to portray Christian ballplayer Matt Holliday as a hypocrite, Dave Zirin and Tom Krattenmaker write: “But there was Holliday thanking God after his questionable winning run against the Padres.” What they fail to mention is that even if Holliday had told the umpires he missed home plate, it would have made zero difference -- umpires would never consider changing the call once it had been made.

Every day all over the world, people are terrorized, tortured and molested. And God’s divine attention is focused on the evangelical Colorado Rockies and their pursuit of a World Series championship ring?

If it were God’s will that the Rockies be in the World Series after 21 victories in 22 games, then what are we to make of their crushing defeat in the series opener? Perhaps God is telling us that pride goes before a fall.
