Get Funky wins again on Santa Anita hillside

Get Funky, the 2-1 favorite, remained unbeaten on the hillside turf course at Santa Anita, narrowly defeating 14-1 longshot Relato Del Gato to win the $110,000 Morvich Handicap on Saturday.

Claimed for $62,500 by trainer John Sadler for owner Keith Abrahams on June 18, 2006, the 4-year-old Straight Man colt has won three of 10 since the purchase, including his biggest victory in last year’s Del Mar Derby.

Martin Garcia rode Get Funky, who had won his previous start at the about-6 1/2 -furlong distance March 24, and the final time was 1:13.23. Becrux ran third and McCann’s Mojave was fourth.

There was a stewards’ inquiry and a claim of foul by jockey Tyler Baze, who rode fifth-place finisher and 3-1 second choice Night Chapter, for an alleged incident in the stretch, but there was no change in the order of finish.

Making his first start on a synthetic surface, Go Between edged Stream Cat to win the $150,000 Fayette, the closing-day feature at Keeneland.

Meanwhile, in rainy New York, Tasteyville dominated his three opponents, easily capturing the $150,000 Sport Page Handicap at Aqueduct.
