* at Detroit 6, Seattle 1: Curtis Granderson’s home run put him in elite company and Justin Verlander gave up one run over eight innings, helping the Tigers to their first three-game winning streak in nearly two months. Granderson hit his 20th home run in the seventh inning, making him only the sixth player since 1900 with at least 20 homers, 20 triples and 20 doubles in one season. George Brett, in 1979 for Kansas City, was the last player to accomplish the feat.

* Boston 4, at Baltimore 0: Jon Lester yielded four hits in seven innings to win his third consecutive start. Lester (4-0) pitched brilliantly in his eighth start since returning to the majors after a bout with lymphoma, allowing only one runner past second base.

* Toronto 7, at Tampa Bay 2: Dustin McGowan gave up four hits and struck out a career-high 12 in eight innings and Gregg Zaun hit a three-run homer to lead the Blue Jays. “He was good. He was like Roy Halladay,” Tampa Bay left fielder Carl Crawford said. “He made the pitches when he needed to.”

* at Texas 5, Oakland 3: Edinson Volquez pitched two-hit shutout ball over six innings, and Frank Catalanotto homered, tripled and drove in three runs for the Rangers.

* New York 3, at Kansas City 2: Alex Rodriguez homered for the sixth time in nine games, raising his major league-leading total to 49.

* at Chicago 11, Minnesota 10 (13 innings): A.J. Pierzynski hit an RBI single in the 13th to keep the White Sox from being mathematically eliminated for the Central Division title.

* at Angels 3, Cleveland 2 (10 innings): Kendry Morales lined a single past a drawn-in infield to drive in the winning run in the 10th, after Francisco Rodriguez blew the save for John Lackey.
