ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. -- Jason Elam, who has scored more points for one team than anyone in NFL history, made a 42-yard field goal just before time ran out to lift the Denver Broncos to a 15-14 victory over the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

Elam, who had missed two field-goal tries, almost didn’t have a chance to make up for it. The Broncos were out of timeouts when Jay Cutler connected with Javon Walker on an 11-yard pass with 14 seconds left.

Rather than spiking the ball, the Broncos’ field-goal unit rushed on the field and got the snap off just in time.

The Broncos had 470 yards, including Travis Henry’s 139 yards rushing, but managed only three field goals and a touchdown in eight trips into Bills territory. Buffalo produced only 184 yards and 13 first downs.

Cutler completed 23 of 39 passes for a career-high 304 yards. Buffalo’s J.P. Losman was 14 for 21 for 97 yards and had one pass intercepted.

Coach Mike Shanahan won his 132nd game with Denver, moving him into a tie for 10th with Hank Stram for the most wins by a coach with the same team.

Quoteworthy: “I’m going to look back at this game down the road and this is going to be one of my favorites.” -- Jason Elam, Denver kicker
