From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Dist. Atty. Rod Pacheco was billed this week for a classified ad in the Riverside Press-Enterprise that is being investigated by police as a possible death threat against him.

An Aug. 25 ad placed by a third party listed a “Big Blowout, Going Out of Business” sale, with Pacheco’s home address and phone number. The ad said proceeds would benefit the “Rod Pacheco memorial fund.” The state attorney general’s office has charged a 32-year-old Press-Enterprise classified employee with criminal threats and four other felony offenses related to placing the ad.

Rebecca Pacheco, the district attorney’s wife, received a $78.20 bill for the ad. “I find this hysterical,” she said. “It’s the ultimate irony.”

Officials at the Press-Enterprise could not be reached for comment.

Chandler William Cardwell of Perris has pleaded not guilty to all charges. If convicted, he could face 11 years in prison.
