Beaches closed to protect shorebirds set to reopen
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
The last Western snowy plover chick has fledged, allowing an early reopening of Vandenberg Air Force Base beaches.
The military officially opened all sections of Surf and Wall beaches Saturday.
The closed section of Minuteman Beach opens this weekend.
Beach restrictions are enforced seven months of the year -- March 1 through Sept. 30 -- on Wall, Minuteman and Surf beaches to protect the shorebirds during breeding season.
