* at Milwaukee 9, St. Louis 1: The victory pulled the Brewers to within two games of the NL Central-leading Chicago.

* Atlanta 10, at Philadelphia 6: Mark Teixeira hit a three-run homer and Chipper Jones had a two-run shot to help the Braves keep their slim playoff hopes alive.

* Washington 10, at New York 9: The Mets scored six runs in the bottom of the ninth but lost their fifth consecutive home game. New York’s magic number for clinching its second consecutive NL East title was cut to four when the second-place Phillies lost to the Braves.

* at Pittsburgh 6, Arizona 5: Pinch-hitter Josh Phelps singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the eighth.

* Houston 8, at Cincinnati 5: Hunter Pence homered and the Astros rallied from a four-run deficit.

* San Diego 6, at San Francisco 4: Barry Bonds was held out of his 10th game in a row because of a sprained right big toe. His final chance to play in front of the home fans comes today.

* Colorado 9, at Dodgers 7: The Rockies extended their winning streak to nine games and are a season-high 13 games over .500. The Dodgers lost for the eighth time in nine games.
