at No. 12 Boston College 24, Massachusetts 14: Andre Callender ran for 115 yards and two touchdowns and Matt Ryan threw for one touchdown to lead the Eagles (5-0) past the Minutemen (4-1) for their best start in more than 50 years. Ryan was 24 for 42 for 204 yards, helping Boston College open a 17-0 lead before slumping in the third quarter as UMass closed to within a field goal at 17-14. But Ryan answered with a 61-yard drive, completing five of seven passes and adding a 14-yard scramble before Callender scored to make it 24-14. BC has not opened a season with five straight wins since 1954.

at No. 17 Virginia Tech 17, North Carolina 10: The Hokies (4-1, 1-0) made two big plays on defense, and it was enough to beat the Tar Heels (1-4, 0-2) at Blacksburg. Tyrod Taylor scored on a five-yard run and Brandon Ore scored on a one-yard dive for Virginia Tech, which managed only 241 yards of offense. Ore’s touchdown was set up on an interception by Xavier Adibi. North Carolina had an earlier drive end at the Hokies’ goal line when Orion Martin forced Ryan Houston to fumble and Kam Chancellor recovered in the end zone.

at Miami 24, Duke 14: Kyle Wright returned from an injury to throw a game-securing touchdown pass to DajLeon Farr with 2:15 left, and the Hurricanes (4-1, 1-0) escaped an upset bid by the Blue Devils (1-4, 0-2) for the second straight year. Wright was 19 for 23 for 230 yards and two touchdowns.

Louisville 29, at North Carolina State 10: The Cardinals (3-2) forced a season-high five turnovers and overcame Brian Brohm’s least productive performance of the season to beat the Wolfpack (1-4) at Raleigh. Art Carmody added three field goals and kicked an NCAA-record 227th extra point of his career.

at Virginia 44, Pittsburgh 14: Jameel Sewell threw three first-quarter touchdown passes and Cedric Peerman ran for two scores at Charlottesville as the Cavaliers (4-1) beat the Panthers (2-3).
