Thanks to Upton, Diamondbacks roll

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks keep knocking around West Division foes, with the kid leading the way.

Justin Upton went three for three with four runs batted in, including a three-run homer, to power the Diamondbacks to their eighth consecutive victory, a 10-3 romp over the Colorado Rockies on Saturday.

The 20-year-old outfielder, the first overall pick in the 2005 draft, boosted his average to .415, including five home runs with 10 RBIs.

“When you talk about what the upside of this guy is and the kind of player he’s going to be down the road,” Arizona Manager Bob Melvin said. “I think you’re getting a little glimpse of it.”

Upton chased Colorado’s Franklin Morales with a 429-foot home run onto the concourse in left-center field that gave the Diamondbacks a 7-1 lead with none out in the fifth inning.

The eight wins in a row are a franchise record for April, and all have come against teams in the National League West.
