Denver Nuggets forward Carmelo Anthony was arrested early Monday on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, hours after his worst game of the season.

Anthony was arrested on Interstate 25 in Denver, police said. He was alone and pulled over for weaving and not dimming his lights.

Detective Sharon Hahn said Anthony failed a series of sobriety tests. He was charged with DUI, then taken to police headquarters before being released to a “sober responsible party,” Hahn said. Anthony is due in court May 14.

Mark Warkentien, the Nuggets’ vice president of basketball operations, declined to comment. The Nuggets did not practice Monday and Anthony wasn’t available.

Anthony, ticketed in February for speeding, had 11 points on three-for-14 shooting Sunday in a 111-94 victory over Houston.

Despite the release of e-mails that Seattle SuperSonics owner Clay Bennett exchanged last year with partners about moving the team to Oklahoma City, Commissioner David Stern says he is convinced Bennett made a promised good-faith effort to keep the team in Seattle.

NBA owners will vote Friday on Bennett’s proposed relocation. A June trial is scheduled on Seattle’s lawsuit to enforce its lease and keep the team at KeyArena through 2010.

In a salary-cap move, the Portland Trail Blazers requested waivers on forward Darius Miles, 26, saying the damage to his surgically repaired right knee qualified as a career-ending injury.

It would save the team the remaining two years and $18 million on his contract.
