DALLAS -- Ducks right wing Rob Niedermayer did not play in Tuesday night’s Game 3 of the Western Conference quarterfinal series against Dallas because of concussion-like symptoms that put his status in doubt for the rest of the series.

The symptoms resulted from a hit Niedermayer took at the 12-minute 22-second mark of the third period of the Ducks’ 5-2 loss in Game 2 on Saturday.

Coach Randy Carlyle said Niedermayer made team officials aware of the symptoms Sunday morning before the Ducks left for Dallas.

“He’s feeling nauseous,” Carlyle said. “Not feeling just right. Specifically, it happens more when he’s traveling in a vehicle. We felt it wouldn’t be very smart to put him in an airplane.

“At this point, he’s not traveling today. Who’s to say he couldn’t travel here tomorrow?”

Niedermayer, a key part of the team’s checking line, was on the receiving end of a hit that left wing Travis Moen put on Dallas forward Brenden Morrow.

“He actually got run into,” Carlyle said. “It was the force of our player hitting one of their players into him. One for the books again.”

Niedermayer has a history of concussions. The last one occurred two seasons ago when he missed six games. In the 1997-98 season with Florida, the 14-year veteran missed 26 games because of a concussion and post-concussion syndrome.

Carlyle said the hit didn’t appear to be that severe “but those things have affected people differently.”

“Obviously in this situation, he’s not feeling well,” he added. “We have to go on the guidance of what the player tells you and what the medical staff tells you and then you make a decision off of that.

“Right now, he has those symptoms and there’s no way we’re going to put him in a situation where he can injure himself.”

Meanwhile, Corey Perry, out since March 6 because of a torn quadriceps, has not been cleared by doctors. Perry took part in the optional skate Tuesday and stayed on the ice for extra work afterward.

Dave Taylor is enjoying the playoffs these days, which was something that didn’t happen much in his final years in Los Angeles.

After spending most of his 30 years with the Kings as a player and general manager, Taylor is finishing his first season as the Stars’ director of player personnel.

Taylor was fired as general manager by the Kings two years ago because of their failure to make the postseason since 2001. The Kings still haven’t made the playoffs but he’s not concerned with that.

“I’ve moved on,” Taylor said. “I’m with the Dallas Stars. We’re doing what we can to win the next game and this series.”

Taylor does want another chance to run a team.

“I think in the right situation, I would consider that,” he said. “At the same time, I’ve really enjoyed this year with the Stars and the role that I have here. It’s a good group to work with and a good group to be part of.”

Ducks rookie Bobby Ryan was scratched for Game 3 after going scoreless in the first two games. Center Brian Sutherby returned to the lineup after sitting out Game 2. Defensemen Marc-Andre Bergeron and Joe DiPenta have yet to play in the series.
