* Milwaukee 5, at St. Louis 3 (10 innings): Prince Fielder hit a two-run homer off Brad Thompson in the 10th inning that helped the Brewers avoid a three-game sweep. Fielder also tied the score with a double that capped a three-run eighth inning. The Brewers tied it when pinch-hitter Hernan Iribarren chased Kyle Lohse with an RBI double, Ryan Braun hit a sacrifice fly off Ryan Franklin and Fielder had an opposite-field double against Randy Flores on a ball that barely eluded Skip Schumaker’s attempt for a diving catch.

* at Philadelphia 10, Houston 2: A poor bullpen session put Brett Myers in a foul mood before he took the mound. Once he got there, he settled in nicely, pitching seven impressive innings. “My bullpen was terrible,” Myers (2-1) said. “I think that’s what really ticked me off and made me focus in better. I wasn’t making pitches, nothing was going right. When I saw [Astros leadoff hitter] Michael Bourn step in, that’s when I locked it in.” His eight strikeouts were a season-high for the Phillies.

* Cincinnati 9, at Chicago 2: Joey Votto doubled with the bases loaded, homered and drove in five runs to help give Dusty Baker a win over the team he managed from 2003 to ’06. Baker’s return to Wrigley Field started with two losses, right after the Reds had been swept three games in Pittsburgh. “We didn’t want to have back-to-back sweeps. Five in a row felt like it was a month,” Baker said.
